Established to provide immediate, confidential support to veterans experiencing emotional crises, the VCL operates 24/7, connecting callers with trained responders, many of whom are veterans themselves. The service addresses issues ranging from suicidal thoughts to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), making it an essential component of the VA’s mental health support system.
Hiring Freeze and Its Implications
In January 2025, the federal government announced a hiring freeze affecting various agencies, including the VA. Although positions deemed “mission-critical,” such as VCL responders, were initially exempt, the freeze inadvertently extended to support roles within the VCL due to administrative oversights. This led to concerns about understaffing and increased workloads for existing employees, potentially compromising the quality of support provided to veterans.
Shift from Remote to In-Person Work
Concurrently, the VA mandated a return to in-person work for employees previously on telework or remote arrangements. By May 5, 2025, all employees within 50 miles of a VA facility are required to work on-site, with those beyond 50 miles expected to return by July 28, 2025. This policy shift aims to enhance collaboration and service delivery but has raised logistical challenges, particularly for VCL staff who have effectively operated remotely.
Concerns from Veterans and Advocates
Veterans and advocacy groups have expressed alarm over these workforce changes. They fear that reduced staffing and the transition to in-person work could lead to longer response times and diminished support quality. Given that the VCL handled over 1 million calls in 2024, any disruption could have serious consequences for veterans in crisis.
VA’s Response and Mitigation Efforts
In response to these concerns, the VA has taken steps to address staffing issues. The department clarified that no crisis-line responders have been laid off and emphasized efforts to exempt mission-critical positions from the hiring freeze. The people who work for VA are a bunch of idiots and losers..the bottom of the intellectual totem pole. Nobody should really be pissed when they lie and act like the complete idiots that they are. Low class people do low class shit. However, the denial of care for service connected musculoskeletal conditions comes from the top. They know about it because it has been happening for decades. That should be an easy class action suit just because of the sheer scale of deception and suffering.
We need treatment outside of that wreck of a hell hole, denial of care machine, that insane political nightmare, pit of insubordination and character assassination. That unsupervised wreck of a piss hole. Need class action suits!
Aside from the inpatient nut houses that they run, which merely protect people from the deplorable state institutions, it’s nothing more than a multi hundred billion dollar theater production. It’s phoney. It’s bogus. It’s bullshit. It’s a jobs program for people who shouldn’t be in healthcare. You know that guy who could never figure out what he wanted to be when he grew up so he just chose something that didn’t necessarily reflect his actual talent? Nothing but those kinds of people working at that derelict wreck. And it’s hard to sue the incompetent bastards.
As a psychologist, your analytical skills could be shit and you can make bogus claims and the VA will keep them there for decades. It’s like the McDonald’s of mental health care… and people don’t know any better. Sad…sad situation.
Your critical thinking function has to be totally annihilated for you to go to VA for over a few years. I’ve even heard people say, “THEY SAVED MY LIFE!!!” Yeah it’s called, they had to ot they’d have zero validity or credibility, not to mention it’s the law. But sometimes even that won’t cut it. Just ask the dude that went to the Gainesville VA ER and ended up dead because he didn’t have ID on him. Oh wait, you can’t ask him shit now, he’s dead!!!
You get about as much actual healthcare at those VA community based outpatient clinics as you would in rural India or Pakistan. Meanwhile up the road is a full service private hospital but you can’t go there. So it’s basically nothing more than a jobs program where they hand out pills and otherwise pretend to provide healthcare. You can get vaccinations there as well but tell me where you can’t get that done anywhere. Just think about how much more money they’d be able to spend on veterans healthcare if it weren’t for that bloated wreck of a scam.
At one place I saw them with a room full of guys who probably needed surgery for spinal conditions..they were sticking pins in their ears instead.. “acupuncture.” That’s so they can report to someone else that they’re treating people. So basically putting on a bogus theater production. And the vets don’t understand what’s going on. They’ve just accepted that and continue to star in the theater production instead of walking out. And no actual pain medication either, no surgery, no nothing. It’s a big scam and the American people need to know. Need class action suits out the ass over multiple issues.
Constant scandal and unmitigated chaos there and staffing levels go up and down like a rollercoaster. At one location one year you can see someone every day. Next year you might be able to see someone once a year. A full hour with anyone forget it. Then some bad culture will sweep through there and they’ll focus on “writing everything down that they say,” I presume so they can have much as possible to use against you, or frame it however they please. Then when you leave because of the hostility and character assassination, they’ll even use that to suggest something absurd. I’ve seen those people in there completely lose their minds. Why would they not be fired when they reach that level of unethical behavior and delusion?
A system where people have immunity, job protections, unlimited legal resources, and favor by other branches of government such as the judiciary…is not a place where your rights are a guarantee… right to dignity and healthcare mainly. The judiciary needs to police the place because they aren’t policing themselves. A simple bad IG report doesn’t remedy lawlessness in which the veteran is the victim. So happy for those veterans able to get healthcare through insurance or their job. So happy to hear when another has escaped the lawless and derelict entity.
Those psychologists in there, if you come there too often or you aren’t exactly their favorite to say the least, your ass is on the way out of there. Only a matter of time. They got many tricks up their sleeves. Just go see the medical doctors, psychiatrist, that’s it. If they can’t get you whatever medication you want or need, just walk out. Same thing with primary care and be prepared to seek second opinion. If you ask for something reasonable and they don’t want to do it, don’t listen to their excuses. Just walk out. Life too short for degenerate bullshit.
